Position Announcement Department of History, Sun Yat-sen University , China (Year 2020)
Ⅰ. Introduction of the Department
Department of History was among the earliest ones established in the year of 1924 at Sun Yat-sen University and now ranks top 5 in China according to the latest discipline-evaluation by China’s Ministry of Education. The founding fathers of modern Chinese historical studies including Chen Yinko, Fu Sinian, Gu Jigang, and Liang Fangzhong spent considerable time here to teach and research, which commenced a profound academic tradition. Over more than 95 years, the Department has achieved significant improvements and enjoys a renowned reputation home and abroad with its overall strength and conscientious scholarship.
The Department has continuously attached great importance onto talent cultivation and academic research. The Chinese history, world history and archaeology are listed as National Leading Majors in 2019. We also offer graduate programs including degrees of Master and Ph.D, Field teaching/researching is a distinctive advantage of our talent cultivation program that wins a national wide reputation.
The Department has built up a strong faculty with 29 professors, 20 associate professors and about 50 research fellows and postdoctoral researchers. A number of faculty members have been granted national awards and titles and hold important positions in societies and research centers of various research areas of historical studies, and crucial policy-making departments in Higher Education.
For the further development of Department of History, full time, tenured/tenure-track faculty positions (at levels of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor), as well as positions of Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Researcher are available from the following research areas:
1. Chinese History（all periods）
2. Archaeology and Museology
3. European Ancient and Medieval History
4. World History （all areas)
Ⅱ. Information of Faculty and Researcher Positions
1. Scholars of "100 Top Talents Program"
a.Tenured positions at level of Associate or Full Professor
b.Tenure-track positions at level of Assistant Professor (no more than six years and you may apply for upgrade after the first contract for three years)
2. Postdoctoral Researcher
You will have a two years contract and you may apply for a further contract for 3 years as Research Fellow.
You can apply for tenured positions in every end of the contract.
3. Research Fellows
You may have a contract for no more than five years and you can apply for tenured positions during or in the end of the contract.
Applicants should (i) be a promising or established scholar with a doctoral degree (or close to completion) from an established university; and (ii) demonstrate a specialty in the above fields.
The appointee will be expected to (i) have the ability to teach postgraduate and undergraduate courses; (ii) publish research papers in top-tier journals in related fields; and (iii) host or participate major national or provincial research projects.
